Sykes Takes Stunning Double At Oulton Park

July 24, 2008

Rizla Suzuki Team rider Tom Sykes stepped up his form considerably last weekend as he not only took his debut win in BSB, but took an historic first double win - the first in the last 4 seasons for Rizla Suzuki.

Sykes had been promising good results for some time and duly delivered in impressive form in front of a packed crowd at the Outon Park Circuit.

The first race began with Sykes getting a flying start from the front row of the grid to lead the first lap with James Ellison and Leon Haslam tucked close behind, and it was Ellison who made a move into first place on the second lap.

However, Sykes didn’t give Ellison any breathing room and took the lead again on the seventh lap in great style at Hizzy’s chicane. Sykes went on to pull further away each lap, crossing the finish line with a comfortable lead ahead of James Ellison and Shane Byrne.

At the start of the second race Sykes got another great start, but it was Leon Haslam on his HM Plant Honda who led from the first corner.

Unfortunately for Haslam it seemed Sykes was on a mission, taking the lead from him on the second lap. Sykes then went on to hold on to the end for victory, despite a four-way battle developing into the final laps with Crutchlow, Byrne and Haslam (eventually finishing in that order).

It was the perfect end to the weekend for Sykes ahead of his wild card entry in the World Superbike race at Brands Hatch on August 3.
