Sykes Leads British Invasion Of Brands Hatch WSB
July 29, 2008
Tom Sykes, double winner at Oulton Park in BSB last time out, heads into his debut World Superbikes race at Brands Hatch this weekend full of confidence.
The Rizla Suzuki rider is one of a number of British wild card entries in the various race classes of the premier Superbike Championship. Joiing him in the World Superbikes class will be Simon Andrews of Jentin/Lloyds Brirish Yamaha and Chris Walker of the Vent-Axia Honda team.
With his impressive recent form in the British Superbikes, Sykes is brimming with confidence ahead of what will undoubtedly be his toughest challenge yet. However, Rizla Suzuki team manager Jack Valentine is trying to keep his feet more firmly on the ground.
“We are all really up for this World Superbike weekend and believe that Tom is capable of two impressive results,” said Valentine. “Our main focus initially will be to get into the top 16 to ensure he goes forward to Superpole.
“Ideally we would like a front row start to give him the best chance to get away with the lead group. It will be a tough race as the World Superbike guys take no prisoners and they are on it right from the moment the lights go out. It will be one of the hardest races of his life but I’m sure Tom and his Rizla Suzuki squad are capable of rising to the challenge.”
