Spies With Double Win At Qatar

March 18, 2009

Ben Spies further improved his standing in his rookie season in World Superbikes by taking an emphatic double win at the Losail circuit in Qatar.

This makes it 3 wins out of a possible 4 this season so far, the Texan finishing ahead of Noriyuki Haga and Max Biaggi in second and third respectively in both races to make up identical top 3 finishes.

In race one, Yamaha rider Spies waited until 6 laps remaining before attacking the lead and pulling away to eventually give himself a comfortable victory. Behind him there was a scrap for second between Haga and Biaggi, with Haga getting the upper hand at the finish.

Race two saw Spies control the race from the beginning, pulling away towards the end for yet another comfortable visctory. Again there was a terrific scrap for second between Haga and Biaggi which the Japanese driver won, keeping his grasp on the points lead in the championship.
