Spies Wins Race One In Assen
April 26, 2009
Ben Spies continued his successful weekend in Holland by winning the first of the two races at the Assen TT circuit today. The American pulled off a spectacular overtaking manoevre over Japanese rival Noriyuki Haga on the final lap of the race to take the win.
Spies had started on pole position but it was Haga who took the early lead. Spies stuck to the Japanese rider however and made his move at the very last, passing Haga just 2 turns from the end of the race and holding on for the win.
Third place went to British rider Leon Haslam, who also had the added distinction of setting a new lap record.
