Spies Notches Up Another Superpole At Assen

April 25, 2009

World Superbikes rookie Ben Spies looks set to continue his assault on the rider’s championship in his first season, as he notched up a fourth consecutive superpole victory at the Assen TT circuit.

The American recorded a time of 1m 37.626, smashing the previous course record set by Troy Bayliss. He was pushed hard however, as he chased the time set by Jacob Smrz who will start alongside him on the front row of the grid. They will be joined by Britain’s Leon Haslam and Japanese rider Noriyuki Haga.

It’s a new record for the start of a season and just two poles away from the all-time record of 6 consecutive pole positions achieved by Doug Polen during the 1991 season.
