Silverstone To Celebrate 60th Anniversary

The penultimate round of the 2008 British Superbikes Championship at Silverstone next week will take on special meaning this year, as the circuit celebrates its 60 years of racing. The weekend will feature a collection of iconic racing bikes to represent the best of British motorbiking over the last 6 decades.
Legendary motorcycles old and new will be on view in the Classic Bike Display next to the paddock on raceday Sunday 28 September. Bikes so far confirmed include:
- 1954 John Surtees Rennsport BMW
- 1960 Surtees 500cc MV Agusta
- 1961 BMW R69s
- 350cc and 500cc 4 cylinder Honda, representing the bikes ridden by Mike Hailwood in the 60s
- 1971 Mike Hailwood BSA Rob North 3 cylinder
- 1976 Mick Grant Kawasaki KR 750
- 1978 Steve Parrish RG 500cc Suzuki Mk2
- 1979 Stan Woods RG 500cc Suzuki Mk5
- 1980 Barry Sheene and Steve Parrish RG 650 Suzuki
- 1981 Yamaha TZ350 G, as ridden by Damon Hill
- 1985 Joey Dunlop RS 250cc Honda
- 1986 Cagiva V4 500, later ridden by Randy Mamola
- John Reynolds’s 2004 Championship winning Rizla Suzuki GSX-R1000 K4
- From Hailwood Motorcycle Restorations Ltd, an HMR Egli-Vincent and an HMR Norvin
More bikes are still to be confirmed, and many will be ridden by a host of motorcycle riding legends as part of a demonstration parade.
In addition to free access to all the displays and demonstrations, Silverstone have also announced that 3 giant screens will be erected around the circuit to let fans watch all the action unfold.
