Schumacher Tests On Ducati And Yamaha At Portimao

November 11, 2008

Last week saw six-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher continue to pursue his new hobby of motorbike racing as he was given chance to test both the Yamaha Motor Italia WSB’s R1 machine and the championship-winning Ducati 1098 F08 on the Portugal Circuit that ended the 2008 World Superbikes season.

Schumacher was quick to praise the new Autodromo Internacional, describing it as both technically demanding and safe. The former Ferrari driver spent most of the morning testing the Yamaha bike ridden by Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser last season, and had the opportunity to ride Troy Bayliss’ Ducati in the afternoon session.

His performance on the track was not bad at all for a relatively inexperienced motorbike racer - the German posted lap times just 5 seconds slower than Haga’s fastest racing lap on the Portimao circuit, while his times on the Ducati machine were a little slower.
