Pirelli Roll Out New Tyre From Their Workshops
May 8, 2009
Tyre manufacturer Pirelli will debut a new qualifying tyre for this weekend’s World Superbike Championship at Monza, with the aim to improve both the performances and the excitement during the Superpole tomorrow.
Pirelli have been working hard in their workshops to come up with a tyre solution that improves rider’s performances and makes it easier for spectators to follow what’s happening during the Superpole event. This has been achieved by adding non-permanant white and yellow marks to the surface of the tyre to indicate what stage the rider is at.
The new qualifying tyre is 200mm, unique to the Monza track in being the same specification as the full race tyre, giving riders the confidence to record the fastest lap possible.
Pirelli’s Racing Activities Giorgio Barbier said:
“We continue to put forth significant efforts in developing additional tyre options available to every rider of the Superbike and Supersport grid, and we are satisfied with all the results, including this new qualifying tyre which guarantees more excitement and visibility into the strategies of each team during Superpole for all spectators, both live and on television.”
Monza Superpole qualifying is tomorrow, while the full races - one and two - are on the Sunday, with tens of thousands of spectators expected at the Italian circuit.
