Michael Schumacher Given Open Offer by Honda to Ride in World Superbikes

November 29, 2008

Seven time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher has been told by Honda superbikes chief Carlos Fiorani there is a spot available for him in his World Superbikes team for 2009.

“Michael hasn’t asked us to race in the world Superbikes series, but if he wants to there is certainly a way for him,” Honda Superbikes boss Carlo Fiorani told the Gazetta dello Sport.

Schumacher has grown something of a hobby out of superbike racing, testing out various bikes over the last year. The 39-year old has stated his motorbike riding is nothing more than a hobby and that he has no intention of returning to competitive racing, but he scored some of the fastest track times on a Ducati testing at Portimao a couple of weeks ago and there are very strong rumours he has signed to compete in the German Superbikes championship next season.

This is sure to be a story to develop over the coming months!
