Japanese Superbikes Race One - Tsukuba

April 29, 2009

This month saw the start of the 2009 Japanese Superbikes Championship with the opening race weekend at the Tsukuba Circuit in Ibaraki on April 5th.

A crowd of just over 15,000 enjoyed fine weather as they watched Honda rider Chojun Kameya dominate the opening race of the 2009 season. Kameya found himself 8 seconds clear of his nearest rival after the full 25 laps.

Notably last years championship winner Katsuyuki Nagasuga was unable to start the first race, giving the build up to the start of the season a slight anti-climax. So after one round it is Kameya who leads on points, with the next round of racing at Suzuka.
