HM Plant Honda Down To One Bike Per Rider

January 26, 2009

Effects of the current economic recession are finally being felt in British Superbikes, as HM Plant Honda announce they are down to just one superbike each for both riders Glen Richards and Josh Brookes.

Each rider would normally have a spare superbike in stored in their garages at all times in case of problems with the first, such as a mechanical failure or accidents, but the cost cutting decision was made in order to ensure HM Plant Honda could continue to challenge in all 3 British championships they are competing in for 2009.

Honda UK’s general manager insists the team will remain competitive, stating:

“Our commitment to British Superbikes remains the same as it was last year but we have had to make some budget decisions,” he said. “We have had to cut costs in places which, unfortunately, meant we have to have one bike each for Glen and Josh, and we were forced to make some redundancies.”

This of course follows Honda’s decision to withdraw from Formula One altogether, meaning it’s been a time of cost cutting exercises for the Honda garage all round. A manufacturer with such a proud racing tradition should be competing in major championships, and to see them suffering like this is difficult for every motorsport fan.
