Haslam Struggling To Adapt To HM Plant Honda
July 10, 2008
Leon Haslam has conceded that his move from Ducati to HM Plant Honda this season has been “a steep learning curve”, but feels he is improving as we move into the second half of the British Superbikes season.
Haslam’s form in previous season’s and subsequent move to the strong Honda team meant he entered the 2008 season as a big title favourite. However, 12 races into the season and the British rider sits disappointingly fourth in the riders standings, not having won a single race.
This is a particularly frustrating fact for Haslam as he has led races at Donington, Snetterton and Mallory Park but either bad luck or mistakes have seen him pipped to the post on all occasions.
“I have not had my best season to be fair and we have had a few problems and a bit of bad luck but we have been there or thereabouts,” he told the official British Superbike website.
However, Leon Haslam is certainly showing maturity as he is not letting the bad run of form get to him. “I think my bad results have come when I was trying to push too hard but I want to win and it will come and I am not putting myself under any pressure for it.”
Haslam will be hoping to repay his team’s faith and answer his doubters with a win in the next rounds of superbike racing at the Championship’s return to Oulton Park on 18-20 July.
