Haslam Claims Race Two Win At Silverstone
October 9, 2008
Leon Haslam returned to race two after the disappointment of the first race in style as he won the second race to give him a strong chance of finishing the Championship in silver medal position - Shane Byrne having already won the Championship earlier in the day.
The HM Plant Honda rider showed his determination to bounce back strong in the second race, leading from the start and holding onto the front spot all the way to the finish, despite a problem with his tyres late in the race.
“I was feeling confident in race one and I was disappointed that the race ended the way it did as I wanted to get a double win here today. I was a bit battered and bruised after the crash and it hurt my left knee but there’s no lasting damage. Tom Sykes came to the motorhome to apologise, which is fair enough. When we were sitting on the grid the team were telling me to just go out there and go for it, which I did. I just got my head down and got a bit of an advantage, my tyres went off towards the end of the race but it was enough to take the win. We only have Brands Hatch left now and I want to get there and end the season with a double win.”
New British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne also showed a great improvement in race two, moving from fifth on the first lap to second by the end of the race, ahead of Tom Sykes who finished up in the final podium slot.
There is just one race meeting left for the 2008 BSB season and that will take place at Brands Hatch this weekend 10-12 October.
