Final Round Of 2008 World Superbikes At Portimao

October 28, 2008

The 2008 World Superbikes season finishes this weekend with a debut race weekend for the brand new Autodromo Internacional do Algarve circuit in Portugal. Built in less than a year and costing nearly 200 million Euros, the Portimao circuit promises to be one of the most exciting in Europe.

The weekend will also see the final competitive races for Troy Bayliss before his retirement at the end of the season. The Australian was crowned 2008 champion in the last round at Magny-Cours and will be keen to leave the sport with a flourish.

There is still a battle on for the runner up spot this year - teammates Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser are separated by just 9 points so will be trying their best to get something from their last races with Yamaha.

The manufacturer’s title was tied up by Ducati the same weekend as Bayliss’ championship was sealed, meaning there won’t be any titles up for grabs this weekend. However this is unlikely to make the inaugural event any less exciting this weekend.
