Spies Achieves Impressive Sixth In Latest MotoGP Cameo
September 17, 2008
Ben Spies continued his impressive venture into the MotoGP series last weekend with a personal best finish of 6th place at the inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP.
It was the Rizla Suzuki rider’s third foray into the premier racing series, having previously finished 14th in his MotoGP debut at the British round in June followed by a slightly better 8th the following month at Laguna Seca.
Spies had qualified 5th for the Laguna Seca race ahead of the other Rizla Suzuki pair of Chris Vermeulen and Loris Capirossi, also beating them both in the main race.
The three-time AMA Superbike Champion, feels his performance should be enough to earn him a seat in MotoGP.
“Like I’ve said before, I think I can do this - I can run with these guys,” Spies explained. “We went to a track where, at the end of the day, they were as comfortable on it as I was and we were right there on the brink of finishing in the top five. I think we can do it and I’m looking forward to the future.”
