The first round of the Japanese Superbikes Championship took place in fine weather conditions today at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit.

Lanzi And Haga Win In Valencia

Lorenzo Lanzi and Noriyuki Haga both achieved their first victories of the season in Valencia today, winning races one and two respectively.
The first race was a thrilling encunter punctuated by a number of big crashes, most notably the collision between Carlos Checa and Max Neukirchner on the final corner of race one which allowed Lanzi to stroll past to take the win. Second place went to championship leader Troy Bayliss, with fellow Aussie Troy Corser completing the podium places. [read more]

Brands Hatch BSB Abandoned Due To Snow

The start of the British Superbikes Championship has been delayed due to heavy snowfall at the Brands Hatch circuit this morning.
At 11.15 Sunday morning it was announced that, following a review of circuit conditions and latest forecasts, today’s meeting would have to be cancelled for safety reasons. [read more]

Shakey Byrne Takes First Pole Of Season

Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne took the first pole position of the 2008 British Superbikes Championship at the Brands Hatch Circuit this afternoon.
Team Airwaves Ducati’s Byrne was lucky with the weather as he posted his fastest lap just before the rain set in, which caused many of the riders to lose out on the remaining qualifying time, keeping HM Plant Honda’s Cal Crutchlow in second. [read more]

Suzuki Take 1-2 In Valencia Superpole

Team Suzuki Alstare had a successful day in Valencia today, with two riders finishing with the top two times in a thrilling Superpole session. German Max Neukirchner claimed his first ever superpole with a new lap record time of 1′33.805, while teammate Yukio Kagayama finished just a fraction of a second behind.
Driver’s championship leader Troy Bayliss was the best performer early on in qualifying and was the first to get below the 1′34 mark, but he was outpaced in the final one lap sprint and had to settle for third place on the starting grid. The final spot on the front row went to Spanish rider Ruben Xaus, who just edged out Italian Lorenzo Lanzi. [read more]

British Superbikes - Brands Hatch Preview

The 2008 British Superbikes Championships kicks off this weekend at Brands Hatch in what promises to be one of the most competitive championships in recent years.
New rules and regulations for 2008 have been put in place to help ensure the various teams are more evenly matched for the coming season. They include a one-make tyre rule for all riders, with Pirelli chosen as the series tyre manufacturer. Additionally, a number of top-end engine tuning regulations have been altered in the hopes of making sure all bikes are evenly matched on the track, putting more emphasis on individual rider skill. AMA Superbikes Testing in Sonoma Valley

Infineon Raceway was host to some of the top riders in the AMA Superbikes Championship this week ahead of the fourth round of the championship scheduled here for May 16-18.
The results went very much to form, with Mat Mladin once again dominating ahead of the other superbikes riders. He posted a fasted lap of 1′34.76, unofficially beating the track record set in 2008 by Mladin’s teammate Ben Spies. [read more]

World Superbikes - Valencia Preview

After trips to Qatar and Australia for the last two rounds, the World Superbikes Championship returns to Europe for the third round of racing in Valencia this weekend.
The form guide points strongly at Ducati Xerox’s Troy Bayliss who currently leads the rider’s championship on 88 points after 3 wins out of 4 races, but there are threats to his dominance emerging from a number of the other teams. “Valencia is one of those tracks where I expect everyone to go better and I think those teams that have perhaps been a little behind us with getting ready for the championship will now start to show results,” said Bayliss. New Group Formed To Coordinate Canadian Motorcycle Racing

The Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada (MCC) last week announced the formation of a new “Competition Working Group” whose purpose will be to manage and ultimately expand motorbike racing in Canada.
The group’s founding members include the MCC, Parts Canada Superbike Championship, World Enduro Canada (WEC) and the Canadian Motosport Racing Club (CMRC). It is hoped this coordination between the major racing groups in Canada will help to put Canadian motorcycle racing on the world map as a strong force in competitive racing. [read more]
