Camier Wins Race One At Silverstone - Byrne Is Champion
October 1, 2008
Airwaves Ducati rider Leon Camier took the win in an incident-packed first race at Silverstone last weekend, but it was teammate Shane Byrne who was celebrating loudest as he secured a second Bennets British Superbike Championship title.
The race was filled with lead changes and controversial crashes, including a tangle between Leon Haslam and Tom Sykes, which after a judicial review led to Sykes being disqualified from the race and receiving a 12-position penalty for race two.
The incident gifted the lead to Cal Crutchlow who led until lap nine when Camier made his move and snatched the lead, holding on to the end of the race to hand him his third win of the season.
Australian Shane Byrne managed to avoid the incidents and comfortably finish third, securing him the 2008 title.
