BSB Television Coverage Confirmed For 2008

March 5, 2008

Motorsport Vision have today confirmed that the British Superbike Championship will receive its highest level of TV coverage for the 2008 season, both in the UK and internationally, with extensive deals struck with British Eurosport and Channel 4.

The deal with British Eurosport means 48 hours of live coverage and 66 hours of highlights will be broadcast to over 10 million homes on the satellite and cable channel over the coming year. Fans will be able to enjoy a regular 4-hour live race day show featuring both Bennetts BSB races, the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship and Henderson Yamaha R1 Cup support races all live with expert commentary and analysis. Race highlights will also be shown the same evening and throughout the week, including a “British Superbikes Extra” show on Thursdays.

The Eurosport Group has also signed an agreement with Motorsport Vision that will see the British Superbikes coverage broadcast live across Europe on Eurosport 2 and live on the Eurosport feed across Asia, opening up the season’s racing to potentially 30 million households across 53 countries. Eurosport will also be taking charge of International TV rights with plans to promote even further worldwide television coverage.

This deal with Eurosport represents a major coup for Motorsport Vision in their first season as owners of the BSB rights, benefiting both parties substantially. It shows long term ambitions for the commercial success of the Championship are much higher than they have been in the past, whilst also cementing Eurosports position as the world’s leading broadcaster of motorbike racing (they will already be broadcasting live coverage of MotoGP and World Superbikes Championship racing this year).

In addition to the Eurosport deal, Channel 4 will be showing a one-hour highlights programme on the Tuesday evening after each round, with a repeat broadcast later in the week. The show will also be available through the channel’s Video-On-Demand service, 4OD. It is a welcome return for the terrestrial broadcaster who last covered the action in 2005.

The new BSB season begins on the famous Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit on Sunday 6 April.
