Brendan Roberts to Race for Guandalini in 2009

December 3, 2008

23-year old Brendan Roberts has made sports news by signing for Italian based Ducati team Guandalini. The Australian rode the Ducati 1098 to the World Superstock Championship title for the Ducati Xerox junior team last year so looks sure to prove himself in the top class of superbike racing.

Roberts has a rich history in the sport, winning the Yamaha R6 Virgin Cup in 2005 and the British Superstock Cup in 2006. He had been linked with British Superbikes team North West Ducati since his dramatic World Superstock win before signing for World SBK privateer team Guandalini.

His 2008 season took a disastrous turn at the penultimate race at Magny Cours, a gearbox problem ending his race and pushing him down to fourth in the championship table. Roberts had to win the final race of the season and truly stepped up to the plate. He claimed pole position, the fastest lap of the race and and the race itself to take the championship.

The Guandalini team ran just one machine last season, ridden by Czech Jakub Smrz who claimed his season-best finish of 6th place at Donington Park, Assen and Miller Motorsports Park to take 13th place overall in the championship and the highest position of any privateers.
