Ben Spies Wins 2008 AMA Superbikes Championship

September 8, 2008

AMA Pro Racing confirmed on Friday that Ben Spies has won the 2008 AMA Superbikes Championship following the announcement of Mat Mladin’s unsuccessful appeal of his disqualification at Virginia International Raceway.

Mladin had been disqualified following his double win at the Virginia track after it emerged he was racing with an illegal crankshaft but the team appealed immediately. On Friday the appeal was deemed without merit and the decision stood, confirming Spies’ unassailable lead at the top of the points table.

This is the Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider’s third successive AMA Superbikes Championship title and fourth of his 8 year career to date.
