Bayliss Sets New Lap Record in Monza Qualifying

May 10, 2008

Ducati Xerox rider Troy Bayliss simply stole the show in Monza today to record yet another convincing Superpole win, his third in five races this season.

The Australian produced a breathtaking lap to break the circuit record at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza with a time of 1 minute 44.931 seconds. The nearest rider to Bayliss was an ever improving Max Neukirchner, the German Suzuki Alstare rider recording a time 3 tenths of a second off Bayliss’ pace.

The Yamaha of Noriyuki Haga and Honda of Carlos Checa complete the front row of tomorrow’s starting grid, proving there is still great competitiveness between all the major manufacturers of World Superbikes. The Suzuki squad in particular have looked promising here at Monza this weekend, the team’s other two riders Yukio Kagayama and Fonsi Nieto starting on the second row of the grid.

Finishing off the second row lineup are Ruben Xaus (Sterilgarda Go Eleven Ducati) and Ryuichi Kiyonari (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda).
