Bayliss Ends Superbike Career With Spectacular Double Win In Portimao
November 6, 2008
Troy Bayliss ended his World Superbikes career in style on Sunday, notching up wins in both races to record an emphatic double in front of a 90,000 strong crowd in Portimao, Portugal.
Race One
The first race was dominated by Bayliss from start to finish, the Australian pulling away to a huge lead before cruising to the finish. The remaining podium places were much closer however - Carlos Checa and Troy Corser battled all the way to the end before Checa grabbed the runner-up spot.
Race Two
Race number 2 yet again saw a completely dominant performance from Bayliss, a man clearly displaying his strength over the other riders over the 2008 World SBK season. Second place went to Michel Fabrizio, while an impressive performance from wildcard entry Leon Haslam saw the Brit clinch the final podium place ahead of Max Neukirchner. A sixth place for Troy Corser saw the Australian take second place in the 2008 rider’s championship ahead of Noriyuki Haga who suffered a ride-through penalty for a jump start.
