Bayliss Becomes World Champion For A Third Time

October 15, 2008

Last week saw Australian Troy Bayliss become World Superbike Champion for a third time after finishing third in the first race at the Magny-Cours in France. He then went on to celebrate in true champions’ style by winning the second race of the day. The day’s results also mean Ducati can celebrate their 15th manufacturers’ championship a round early.

Race One
It was Noriyuki Haga who dominated the first race finishing 6 seconds in front of his nearest rival, registering his third straight win in a row. Spaniard Fonsi Nieto took second place, while new champion Bayliss came third.

Race Two
Race two was a much tighter affair at the front of the pack, Bayliss and Haga battling it out for much of the race until with just two laps to go Ducati Xerox rider Bayliss took control and held on for the win. Yamaha Motor Italia rider Haga held onto second, which accompanied with his win in the previous race helped move him up to second in the championship table with just one race meeting to go. Troy Corser took the final podium place to complete a solid weekend of riding for the Australian.

The final round of the 2008 World Superbikes championship takes place on November 2 at Portimao, in Portugal.
