AMA Superbikes Championship - Mid-Ohio Preview

July 31, 2008

After a thrilling weekend of superbike racing at the Laguna Seca circuit last time out, the AMA Championship moves to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car course this weekend.

The Lexington circuit has hosted America’s premier motorbike racing series since the series’ inception in 1983, and it rarely fails to deliver exciting results.

With two consecutive wins behind him, Mat Mladin will be hoping to extend his winning streak to close the gap on rival and teammate Ben Spies in the championship. Spies currently leads Mladin by 411 to 375 after an impressive winning streak of 7 straight wins.

Mladin will certainly be going into the weekend with statistics on his side - the Australian has won the last 3 superbikes races at the Mid-Ohio circuit, and the two Rockstar Makita Suzuki riders have a habit of alternating long winning streaks.

However, Spies will no doubt be full of confidence following his strong wild card performance in the MotoGP two weeks ago, where he was lapping faster than all but MotoGP heavyweights Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner.

All in all the winner of this weekend’s race will be one step closer to taking the prestigious AMA Superbike Championship title.
