AMA Superbikes at Laguna Seca

July 16, 2008

The AMA Superbikes Championship visits the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca circuit this weekend in the first of two scheduled rounds at the famous circuit in Monterey, California.

The July weekend has also become an annual meeting with the MotoGP Championship, the riders from the premiere motorbike racing championship competing here over the same sellout weekend.

The AMA / MotoGP weekend at the Leguna Seca is the most visited motorbiking event of the season, with over 150,000 expected to attend.

And American fans are in for a particular treat this weekend - two of the AMA Championship’s brightest stars are scheduled to compete in the MotoGP race as well as their own domestic championship. Two-time AMA Championship winner Ben Spies, who has been testing for MotoGP for some months, will be looking to gain some extra recognition with his wild card entry with the Rizla Suzuki team.

Joining Spies is fellow AMA Superbike championship contender Jamie Hacking, who is filling in for the injured Kawasaki Racing team and former AMA Formula Xtreme and Superstock king John Hopkins.

The 3 day spectacle will be taking place over 18-20 July.
