AMA Congress Passes 47 New Rules

October 17, 2008

The American Motorcyclist Association Congress convened last week to discuss the state of amateur motorcycle racing and recreational riding in America, most notably rule changes and regulations.

In all 83 rule proposals were discussed, with 47 new rules being passed including most notably a 94 decivel limit for all amateur and Pro-Am motocross and off-road competition effective from 2011. This limit makes amateur competition fall in line with professional racing in the US, as well as that stated by the FIM.

AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman said:

“Few issues contribute more to misunderstanding and prejudice against the motorcycling community than excessively loud motorcycles, and this measure addresses the issue head-on. This standard is already in place for professional and international competition, making this one of the most cost-effective and easy-to-implement solutions to the sound problem. That said, AMA Congress understands that amateur competitors may need more time to adopt this new standard and wisely established a reasonable deadline for compliance.”
